Great Neck Estates

F. Scott Fitzgerald's House

Not open to the public (a private home), but may be viewed from the road.
F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote his famed novel The Great Gatsby during the 19 months in the 1920's that he rented this house. He attended many parties at the "Gold Coast" estates of many well-known and wealthy area residents.

Authors William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878) and Christopher Morley (1890-1957) are buried in this cemetery. The cemetery office was a toll house for the Vanderbilt Motor Parkway, a concrete highway that extended from Queens to Ronkonkoma, and is considered to be the nation's first modern highway.

This early 18th Century home is considered to be one of the finest examples of Greek Revival architecture on Long Island. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

This Jesuit retreat house sits on part of the the estate of millionaire Nicholas Brady. The estate was known as Inisfada, and the massive mansion which serves as the retreat house was built in 1916. It has dozens of rooms and 37 chimneys.

This property was part of the estate of John S. Phipps, and its massive Georgian style mansion was built in 1906. The interior of the mansion is furnished as it was when the Phipps family occupied it. The property around the mansion is an arboretum and botanical gardens.

This small cabin, which was moved here from its original location, is where author Christopher Morley did much of his writing. It is furnished as it was when Morley used it.

Roslyn Clock Tower

This 44-foot tower was designed by the same architects who designed Sagamore Hill in Oyster Bay. It was built in 1895 and above its clock is a bell.

This mill was built prior to 1702 and has been restored to operating condition. It is one of the few remaining operating tidal grist mills from this period in the United States and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

This 216 acre preserve was once the Guggenheim estate and three estate buildings can be seen on the property. There are two mansions on the property. Hempstead House, is the mansion built by Howard Gould , the estates original owner, in 1912. Falaise, the second mansion on the property was built by Harry Guggenheim in 1923. Castlegould was the estate's stable and carriage house and is modeled after Ireland's Kilkenny Castle.
