GALESBURG -- Ruth C. Thompson, 91, of 255 W. Tompkins St. died at 9:56 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 1993, at St. Mary Medical Center.

Born Sept. 12, 1902, to John M. and Bertha C. Apt Fordyce, she married Harvey Trigg Thompson on Dec. 1, 1922, in Galesburg. He died in 1959.

Surviving are one son, John Allen of Washington, D.C.; three daughters, Mrs. John (Carolyn) Oakman of Galesburg, Mrs. Willard (Eloise) Staggs of Yates City and Mrs. Robert (Marie) Eberle of Edwardsville; one sister, Marie Atkins of LaHarpe; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

She attended Western Illinois University. She was a teacher for Henderson County, Warren County and Muscatine, Iowa, school districts.

She later was an Avon representative in the Galesburg area for 25 years, retiring in 1982.

She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the choir and the Gleaners Circle and where she served as past president of United Methodist Women.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hinchliff-Pearson- West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Randy Reese will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services at the chapel. Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery in Roseville.

Memorials may be made to her church.
