Mrs. T. R. Stockdale Dies In Son's Home

Waynesburg, May 20.- Mrs. Mary Ellen Stockdale, 80, one of the best known women in South Western Greene County, died at 12:30 P.M., today at the home of her son, L. Ross Stockdale, of New Freeport, R. D. 1. Her death followed a lingering illness.

Mrs. Stockdale was a charter member of the Bethany Methodist Church at Nettle Hill, and always took an active interest in the affairs of the church.

Mrs. Stockdale was born June 13, 1861, at Rogersville, and was a daughter of Dr. T. T. Williams and Elizabeth Crouse Williams. All her life was spent in Greene County. She was the widow of T. R. Stockdale, who died 26 years ago.

The following children survive; S. Frank Stockdale, Zanesville, O.; L. Ross Stockdale, New Freeport, R. D. 1; Thomas J. Stockdale, Holbrook R. D. 1; David C. Stockdale, Canonsburg; Mrs. Nellie Cumberledge, Holbrook.

Two daughters are deceased. There are also surviving two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Granlee, New Freeport, R. D. 1; and Mrs. Roscoe Mitchell, Deep Valley; also 31 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the home of L. Ross Stockdale until noon Saturday, when the body will be taken to the Bethany Methodist Church at Nettle Hill, where services will be held at 2 o'clock by her pastor, the Rev. George Richmond. Burial will be in the Bethany Church Cemetery.
