Samuel H. Sproat, 89, of 22 East Katherine Avenue, Washington, died at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, 1980, in his home after a long illness.

He was born February 13, 1890, in Morgan Township, Greene County, a son of Jacob and Harriett Sproat.

Mr. Sproat worked for Tygart Valley Glass Co. and Brockaway Glass Co. for 33 years, retiring in April, 1961.

He was an active member of the Church of the Covenant as long as his health permitted.

On December 25, 1913, in Khedive, Greene County, he married Lela Davis, who survives along with a son, Harold Sproat of Washington; two grandsons, Samuel Sproat of Washington and Michael Sproat of the State of California; one great-grandson and two great-granddaughters; two nieces and two nephews.

One son, Edwin, was killed in action in World War II. Also deceased are two granddaughters, Nancy and Sally Sproat; a great-grandson, Donald Sproat; four sisters; and five brothers.


Sproat - Friends of Samuel H. Sproat of 22 East Katherine Avenue, Washington, who died Monday, February 4, 1980, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Stewart F. Barnhill Funeral Home, Stewart F. Barnhill, supervisor, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at a time to be anounced, Thursday, February 7. Burial in Greene County Memorial Cemetery. The family suggests that those who would consider memorials make them to the Church of the Covenant Memorial Fund.
