Jacob S. Sproat

Jacob S. Sproat, of Morgan Township, aged 89 years, nine months and 18 days, died Monday afternoon, November 14, at his home, death being attributed to infirmities due to old age.

Mr. Sproat, who had spent 57 years in Morgan Township, was born January 16, 1848, a son of the late Jesse and Susan Johnson Sproat. He married Harriet Fordyce, who preceded him in death eight years ago. He was a member of the Coallick M. P. Church.

Surviving are the following sons and daughters: H. L. Sproat, Waynesburg, R. D. 2; Mrs. W. I. Taylor, San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. S. T. Huber, Wilkinsburg; C. R. and S. H. Sproat, Washington, Pa.; Mrs. C. C. Grooms, Khedive; W. H. Sproat, Washington State, and Noah R. and Anna N. Sproat, at home. Twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and a half-sister, Mrs. Jenie Croxton, of Kansas, also survive.

JACOB S. SPROAT DIES AT AGE OF 89 YEARS

WAYNESBURG, Nov. 14. - Jacob S. Sproat, 89, one of the best known and most highly respected men in Morgan Township, died at his home near the Children's Home. His death was due to the infirmities of his advanced years.

Mr. Sproat was born January 27, 1849, and was a son of Jesse and Susan John Sproat. He spent the last 57 years in Morgan Township, where he followed farming and stock raising. He was a member of the Coallick Methodist Protestant Church. He married Harriet Fordyce, whose death occurred eight years ago.

The following children survive: H. L. Sproat, Waynesburg, R. D. 2; Mrs. S. T. Huber, Wilkinsburg; Mrs. William I. Taylor, San Diego, Calif.; C. Ross Sproat and Samuel H. Sproat, Washington; Mrs. C. C. Grooms, Khedive; William L. Sproat, State of Washington; and Noah R. Sproat and Miss Anna M. Sproat, at home. One half-sister, Mrs. Jennie Croxton, Kansas, and 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren also survive.

The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon , November 16, in charge of the Rev. J. Paul Lambertson, pastor of the First Methodist Protestant Church of Waynesburg. Burial will be in the Smith Cemetery.
