J. Milton Sproat
Longtime Greene Co. farmer

J. Milton Sproat, 85, of Waynesburg R.D.4, East View, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2000, in West Virginia University Hospitals Inc., Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va., after a brief illness.

He was born June 2, 1915, in Franklin Township, a son of John K. and Jessie A. Cummins Sproat.

Mr. Sproat had resided in Center Township for more than 40 years, prior to moving to East View in the late 1980s.

He was a member of Throckmorton United Methodist Church, East View, where he was a member of the choir and a former teacher of the teen-age Sunday school class.

Mr. Sproat was a 1933 graduate of Waynesburg High School and was a self-taught woodcrafter and furniture maker.

He was a self-employed farmer in Center Township for more than 40 years and also was employed as a substitute rural route mail carrier at Waynesburg Post Office for several years prior to his retirement.

Surviving are two nieces, four nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Deceased are three brothers, Arleigh "Mark", Raymond and Kenneth Sproat.

Mr. Sproat was the last of his immediate family.


SPROAT - Friends of J. Milton Sproat of Waynesburg R.D.4, East View, who died Wednesday, December 27, 2000, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Rush Funeral Home Inc., Rogersville, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 30, with the Rev. Bruce Judy and the Rev. William Parker co-officiating. Interment will be in Rosemont Cemetery, Center Township. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Throckmorton United Methodist Church, c/o 4209 W. Roy Furman Highway, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
