John L Smith

John L. Smith, aged 60, well known Center Township farmer, died suddenly on his home at Hargus Creek, at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 12, 1943, from a heart attack.

He was born on Hargus Creek, June 24, 1883, the son of Vincent Smith, deceased, and Sarah Agnes Orndoff Smith, who survives. On May 29, 1901, he married Mattie Morris, and the following children were born to this union: J. L. Smith, of Waynesburg, R. D. 5; Ross M. Smith, , of the Waynesburg-Rogersville road; Edward B. Smith, of Jefferson; Harry M. Smith of Rogersville. Five grandchildren also survive as do the following brothers and sisters: J. C. Smith, of Waynesburg, R.D. 5; Rev. Charles M. Smith, of Washington, Pa; Mrs. Thomas M. Longstreth, of Rogersville, and Mrs. W. B. Phillips, of Holbrook. He spent his entrie life in Center Township in the Hargus Creek section and was a member of the Rogersville Christian Church.
