W. B. Phillips Obituary
1964


W.B. Phillips, 88, of Holbrook, died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 1964, after a long illness.

He was born October 29, 1875, at New Freeport, the son of the late D.K. and Sarah Miller Phillips.

Mr. Phillips was a well known farmer in Jackson Twp. where he resided most of his life. He taught school for 12 years and served as school director and justice of the peace for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge of New Freeport and Harvey's Grange, No. 1444.

Mr. Phillips was a lifelong member of the Valley Chapel Methodist Church which he attended every Sunday for 49 years. He taught the church's Willing Worker Class for over 50 years and was church treasurer.

His first wife, Molly Roberts Phillips, is deceased. His second wife, Nellie Smith Phillips, survives.

Surviving from the first marriage are six children; David of Clarion, Nelson of Port Vue, Ralph B. of Rochester, Mrs. Earl (Helen) Hughes, Mrs. Katherine Tennant and Mrs. Charles E. (Evelyn) Stewart, of Lorraine, Ohio.

Surviving from the second marriage are three sons; James E. of Washington, D.C., John S. of West View and D. Kennedy of Holbrook. One step-son, Jack V. Smith, of Waynesburg R.D. 5, also survives. Also surviving is one brother, John M., of Swartz, one sister, Mrs. Anna Lantz of Waynesburg; 33 grandchildren; 41 great-great-grandchildren.

One daughter, Mrs. Sarah Higgins, four sisters and five brothers are deceased.
