James A. Masters

Funeral rites were conducted Sunday afternoon for James A. Masters, aged 75, former tax collector of Whiteley Township, who succumbed to a stroke of apoplexy in his home at Brock at 10 o'clock Thanksgiving night, Nov. 29, 1934. Following short services in the Masters home, further rites were held in the Claughton Chapel Church at 2 o'clock with Rev. W. T. Lantz, of Mt. Morris, in charge. Interment was in the Claughton Cemetery.

A son of John and Mary Headley Masters, he was born March 16, 1859, and lived in WhIteley Township for a period of 40 years and served two terms as collector of taxes in that township. He removed to Brock the first of October after having purchased property there. Mr. Masters was a member of the Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church South. Besides his wife, Elizabeth Brock Masters, he leaves one daughter, Mrs. Albert Renner, of Mt. Morris, and four grandchildren.
