William A. Lemley

Veteran of World War II

William A. Lemley, 86, of 36253 Stanteelah Drive, Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Braden Street, Waynesburg, died at 5:55 p.m. Monday, February 14, 2000, in Clemson Manor Nursing Home, Zephyrhills.

He was born May 11, 1913, in Waynesburg, a son of W.A. and Addie Dulaney Lemley.

With the exception of the last two years, Mr. Lemley had spent his entire life in Waynesburg.

He was a member of First Christian Church of Waynesburg, a former member of Waynesburg Elks BPOE 757, the IOOM 461 of Waynesburg and Waynesburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4793.

Mr. Lemley served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a corporal in the 11th Armored Division in Ardennes, Central Europe, Rhineland, and the Battle of the Bulge under General George Patton. He received several medals and honors, some of which were the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

He served several years in the retail mercantile business as a merchant sales clerk in various men's clothing stores in Waynesburg. In 1947, he became partners in the L. and S. Working Men's Store and in 1961 he became owner and operator of Bill's Men's Clothing Store in Waynesburg until his retirement in 1977.

On September 30, 1940, he married Helen L. King, who died April 10, 1974.

Surviving are a sister, Mary King of Waynesburg; a brother, Marshall Lemley of Zephyrhills; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are three sisters, Pearl Mitchell, Ocie Lemley and Vada Headley.


LEMLEY - Friends of William A. Lemley of 36253 Stanteelah Drive, Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Braden Street, Waynesburg, who died Monday, February 14, 2000, will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 18, with the Rev. Stewart Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg. The family suggests memorials be made to Fernando Pasco Hospice East, Modan Plaza, 7066 Fort King Road, Zephyrhills, Fla. 33541.
