Death Takes Aged Mt. Morris Man

Endsley Lemley, 89, of Mt. Morris, a business man and farmer and a son of the late David and Lucy Headley Lemley, died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, in the Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W. Va., after a short illness.

Mr. Lemley spent the greater part of his life in Greene County, where he was widely known as a progressive farmer, stock raiser and business man. He was a descendant of George Lemley, a Revolutionary soldier, who assisted in the surveying of the Mason-Dixon Line. In his youth he spent some time in the state of Iowa where his grandfather and his parents emigrated in 1869 with their families.

Later his parents returned to Greene County, with their family, where Mr. Lemley grew to manhood and spent the greater part of his adult life.

He was born in Greene County on March 31, 1868.

He was educated in the public schools of the county and institutions of higher learning and later taught for a number of years in the county schools. He was always active in politics and held many public offices. He was a great advocate of better schools and improved roads.

On October 28, 1892, he married Miss Clara Cleavenger, daughter of William Kramer Cleavenger and Louisa Garard Cleavenger, and spent their entire life in the Mt. Morris and Waynesburg communities. His wife survives him.

In addition he is survived by the following children: Mrs. Margaret E. Reeves of Muncie, Indiana; William Corbly Lemley, of Morgantown, West Virginia; Dr. Enlo Dawson Lemley of Reading; Miss Violet E. Lemley of Washington, D. C.; Edward Dewey Lemley, Mrs. Louisa Lemley Fetty, of Mt. Morris; sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.


LEMLEY - Friends of Endsley Lemley of Mt. Morris, who died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 1957, are being received at the Weaver Funeral Home, 182 West High street, Waynesburg, where short funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, followed by further rites at 2 o'clock at the Shannon Run Methodist Church with Rev. L. W. Peters officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mt. Morris.
