Mr. Keener was born in Perry Township, near Mt. Morris, a son of the late Robert M. and Susannah A. Headley Keener. He married twice. His first wife, Gaynelle Phillips Keener, died March 3, 1920.

His second wife, the former Belle Huffman, whom he married Oct. 24, 1921, survives.

Surviving to his first marriage are one daughter, Mrs. Albert (Helen) Lemley, of Morgantown, W. Va., and one son, Merrill P. Keener , Jr. of Altoona. Surviving to his second marriage are two daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Alice) Wallmark, of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Miss Susannah C. Keener, at home; four sons, Joseph M., of Ithaca, N. Y.; Richard B., of Tamarack; Attorney Edison W., of Bridgeville, and Attorney Robert M. of Waynesburg; 22 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Rex M. of Ravenswood, W. Va.

One daughter, Louella, and a grandson are deceased.
