JOHN D. JOHNSTON

John D. Johnston, 56, of Washington, R. D. 3, died at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1954, at his home, following an illness of six months.

He was born in Washington County Dec. 20, 1897, a son of Lincoln and Emma Watson Johnston, and had been a resident of Washington his entire life.

Mr. Johnston was a member of the Second Christian Church of Washington.

He was well known in the brokerage business, having started with the Thomas Purman Brokerage agency. Later he managed the Kay Richards and Reed and Lear agencies. Until his last illness he operated his own oil and gas leasing firm.

He was married to Clara Church, of Waynesburg, who survives.

Mr. Johnston also leaves a daughter, Harriett, wife of Sgt. Peter Vetcher, with the U. S. Army in Japan; a son, John D. Johnston, of Pittsburgh; three brothers, Albert J. Johnston, of Washington; Ross L. Johnston, with whom he made his home; Joseph V. Johnston, of Whittier, Calif. Four sisters preceded him in death.

Interment will be in Rosemont Cemetery, Rogersville, Sunday, Dec. 5.
