C. S. HARTLEY

Cornelius S. Hartley, well known and lifelong resident of Kirby, died in his home after a lingering illness at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 1949. He was 87 years of age.

A son of the late Elijah W. and Sarah Headley Hartley, he was born April 5, 1862 in Perry Township. He was a former school teacher and for 13 years served as postmaster at Kirby. Until his retirement three years ago, he served the community as merchant. He was a member of the Kirby Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emma Lemley Hartley; two sons, A. L. Hartley, of Columbus, Ohio, and Omar G. Hartley, of New Brunswick, N. J.; thee grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one of Morgantown, W. Va. [sic] , and three brothers, the Rev. W. T. Hartley, of Trafford, John Hartley, of Mt. Morris and Jesse L. Hartley, of Waynesburg.


HARTLEY - Funeral services for Cornelius S. Hartley, well known resident of Kirby, who died Wednesday, July 13, 1949, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16, from the Kirby Methodist Church with the Rev. George Stump officiating. Friends received at the Church Funeral Home, 197 North Maiden street, Waynesburg, from noon Thursday, July 14, until noon Saturday, July 16. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mt. Morris.
