Carmichaels man worked in Robena Mine


Alva V. Fox, 88, of Carmichaels R.D.1 (Paisley), died at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 1998, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

He was born December 26, 1909, in Grays Landing, a son of Basil William Fox and Ola Gaye Herod Faux.

Mr. Fox resided in the Greensboro and Carmichaels areas most of his life and had worked at several local mines including U.S. Steel's Robena Mine. He retired from the former Waynesburg Pittsburgh Local Express, Waynesburg.

He was a member of Greene Valley Presbyterian Church of Carmichaels and was a former member for many years of the Sugar Grove Baptist Church.

He was also a member of Robena Local 6321 of the UMWA, Carmichaels Grange 1389, Pomona Grange 63, Warrior Trail Association and Carmichaels Rook Club.

His first wife, Mildred Pearl Crago Fox, died June 2, 1961. His second wife, Nellie A. Phillips Shimek Fox, who he married December 26, 1970, survives.

Also surviving are a son, Jesse W. Fox of Greensboro R.D.1; a stepdaughter, Ora Campbell of Mantua, Ohio; two grandsons, Thomas William and Jesse Wayne Fox; two great-grandsons and one great-great-granddaughter; three stepgrandchildren, Rick and Robert W. Campbell and Vickie Lynn Shumate; six stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Rozella Willis of Denver, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased is a son, Kenneth E. Fox; a grandson, Daniel Edward Fox; a brother, Eldred Faux; and two sisters, Orma Bosell and Wilma Ganocy.
