Claysville man retired from West Penn Power

Forney W. Fordyce, 92, of Claysville R. D. 1, died at 8 a.m. Monday, November 28, 1994, in his home.

He was born August 24, 1902, in Miracle Run, Monogalia County, W. Va., a son of John B. and Anna Fox Fordyce.

Mr. Fordyce had resided in Greene County from 1908 until moving to the Claysville area in 1935.

He was a member of South Tenmile Baptist Church.

He attended Graysville Elementary School, was a 1922 graduate of Richhill Township High School and attended Waynesburg Normal School, now known as Waynesburg College.

Mr. Fordyce was a 50-year member and past master of Claysville Masonic Lodge 447 F&AM. He was a life member of Pittsburgh Consistory and Syria Shrine FAAONMS. He was a past director of Washington and Greene County Caravan 2, a 50-year member of Graysville Knights of Pythias Lodge 165 and a member of Washington Elks Lodge 776 and Buffalo Grange 1523.

Mr. Fordyce was a former member of Buffalo Township Planning Commission and a former member and president of the board of directors of the Washington County 4-H Development Fund. He also was a charter member of Three Rivers Tool Collectors of Pittsburgh and a member of Midwest Tool Collectors Association and Early American Industries Association.

In 1944, he was made an honorary member of Trinity High School Future Farmers of America and in 1965 received the Friend of 4-H Award.

After gradating from college, Mr. Fordyce taught elementary school for several years and was a partner in Staggers and Fordyce General Store in Graysville. He was last employed as a customer service representative for West Penn Power Co. for 29 years prior to his retirement in 1967.

In June 1948, he married Maude Gutherie Ruth Fordyce, who survives.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was the last of his immediate family.

Deceased are two brothers, Dr. James A. and Denny Fordyce and three sisters, Jennie Devine, Jessie Ealy and Edna Ealy.

FORDYCE - Friends of Forney W. Fordyce of Claysville R. D. 1, who died Monday, November 28, 1994, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday in Claysville Masonic Lodge, Main Street, Claysville, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dece,ber 1, with the Rev. Louis Sprowls officiating. Interment in Greene County Memorial Park.
