MYRTLE FORDYCE CONKLE

Mrs. Myrtle Fordyce Conkle, 66, of 191 North Porter Street, Waynesburg, died at 1 p.m. Friday, December 20, 1974 in Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a serious illness of a few days.

Born August 23, 1908 at Waynesburg, she was the daughter of Mrs. Jessie Taylor Fordyce of Waynesburg, wh survives, and of the late Henry L. Fordyce. Mrs. Conkle lived all her life in the Waynesburg area, and was a graduate of Waynesburg High School. She later attended Waynesburg College.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Waynesburg, and had been a teacher for the Loyal Partners Sunday School Class for several years. Active in the church, and was a member of the Official Board. She was presently a member of the Memorial Committee, and through the years had served on the various committees of the church, especially the Fiftieth and Seventy-Fifth Anniversary committees.

Active in the Rebekahs, she had been a past Noble Grand of the Lady Greene Lodge 385, and was a past District Deputy of the Rebekah Lodges of Greene County. She was also a member and past president of the Tahoma Club, a member of the Three Links Club, and was presently serving as a Degree Captain for the Rebekah Lodge.

In addition, she was a member of the Fireman's Auxiliary to the Waynesburg Fire Department, and was a member of the Auxiliary to the James Farrel Post, American Legion at Waynesburg.

For several years, she and her husband, Leslie R. Conkle, were associated with her father, Henry Fordyce, in the operation of the Union Restaurant at Waynesburg. In later years, she and her husband owned and operated Myrtle's Town House Restaurant, also at Waynesburg.

She was presently working as a member of the executive board of the Meals on Wheels program, and was a very active member of the Keystone Senior Citizens of Waynesburg.

Surviving in addition to her mother and her husband, whom she married March 20, 1930, are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Viola) Cole of Prosperity R.D. 2; and Mrs. Frank (Henrietta) McNeely of Waynesburg, R.D. 2; a son, James L. Conkle, of Ft. Worth, Texas; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Theodore (Laura) Davis of Waynesburg; and Mrs. John (Marguerite) Buchanan of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, William Fordyce; a sister, Jessie Ameda; and a great-grandchild; are all deceased.


CONKLE - Friends of Myrtle Fordyce Conkle, of 191 North Porter Street, Waynesburg, who died Friday, December 20, 1974, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Mariner and Milliken Funeral Home, Waynesburg, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 23, with Rev. Kenneth C. Thomas and Rev. Kenneth Fordyce officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Park. A Rebekah's memorial service for the late Myrtle Fordyce Conkle will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, in the Mariner and Milliken Funeral Home, Waynesburg, by Lady Greene Lodge385. A visitation by the Waynesburg Firemen and Ladies Auxiliary will be conducted for the late Myrtle Fordyce Conkle, in the Mariner and Milliken Funeral Home, Waynesburg, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22.
