Local Woman Dies at Age of 107

Waynesburg - Carrie Belle Blaker, 107, of R. D. 1, Mount Morris, died at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 1986.

Born March 29, 1878 in Perry Township, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth Fox Hickman.

In her early childhood she attended Haines School in Perry Township. At the age of 10, she moved to Newtown (now Kirby) and attended the Whiteley School until the age of 14. After completing her education, she worked on her farm-home.

At 19, she married Milton Fordyce Blaker on Oct. 30, 1897 in Waynesburg. He died Oct. 4, 1924. On the occasion of her 100th birthday, an article was written about her life.

She was a member of the Claughton United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mildred Blaker of R. D. 1, Mount Morris, with whom she made her home; a grandson, Willis G. Blaker Jr. of R.D. 1, Mount Morris; two great-grandchildren, Pam Blaker and Wllis G. Blaker III; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Willis G. Blaker; two sisters, Mary Ellen Vance and Viola Fordyce; and a brother, William Henry Hickman.

Carrie Belle Blaker, 107, of Mt. Morris R.D. 1, died in her home at 11:30 a.m. Monday, February 10, 1986.

On October 30, 1897, she married Milton Fordyce Blaker, who died October 4, 1924.

Mrs. Blaker attended school in Perry and Whiteley townships and worked on the family farm. She was a member of the Claughton Chapel.

Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Mildred Blaker of Mt. Morris R.D. 1, with whom she made her home; one grandson, Willis G. Blaker Jr. of Mt. Morris R. D. 1; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a son, Willis G. Blaker; two sisters, Mary Ellen Vance and Viola Fordyce; and one brother, William Henry Hickman.
